Each edition of the Neptune Bulletin gathers what actually happened across Neptune Cash into one place: direction, security, mining, tooling, coverage, markets, and the occasional thing from outside the project worth paying attention to. It is published at useneptune.org, and since the site has no comments, this thread is where every edition gets discussed.
Each edition covers a lot of ground, and plenty happens in Telegram or on X that never reaches the forum, so things will get missed. If something was left out, was unclear, or does not look right to you, please say so here. You do not need to be certain and you do not need to make a case; “are you sure about that?” is genuinely welcome.
This is also the place to shape what comes next, if you would like to: a section you would find useful, a number worth tracking every time, something nobody reads that could go, a corner of the ecosystem getting no attention at all. The early editions are as much a draft of the format as a record of what happened, and they will get better a lot faster with people saying what they would actually like to read.
Anything that needs fixing gets fixed. The first edition goes up shortly, and every edition will be linked in this thread.
Thanks to everyone already keeping the discussion going here, in Telegram and on X. This only works because people are paying attention.
Here is the first one: Neptune Bulletin #1, covering 15 to 29 July. A good deal of what is in it started as posts here and in Telegram.
Some of what is in it:
Difficulty rose about elevenfold in four weeks, and most of that rise has no published explanation. A much faster GPU miner arrived mid-window.
A security review run with Claude 5 found no critical flaws in the cryptography stack but medium-severity issues in neptune-core. The fixes went into v0.15.0, and succinctness is now waiting behind them.
QuantumTracker graded Neptune an F, entirely on the peer transport, with five of the six categories at A. The core team’s answer to that is in there too.
The first timelocked NPT trade executed, 60,000 locked for 15,000 liquid.
It also covers new community tooling, a token standard draft, where the community fund proposal stands, and three things from outside the project worth knowing about.
Corrections, questions and anything it missed are welcome here. That is how the next edition gets better.
Really great stuff! Very thorough, and as I see it you picked up the all important points. Impressive!!
I remember Alan being asked a question on Telegram about shorter block times to which he provided a solid answer, about what to be aware of, or cautious of, without turning down the possibility. His answer belongs in an FAQ or perhaps on the forum somewhere. How do we pick up nuggets like that?
Agreed it would be good to keep bits like this from getting buried in the Telegram chat. I’ll likely pick it up in the next bulletin too, especially if the discussion continues.
