NPT coins can be destroyed, a process we refer to as “burning”. When someone burn their coins, they are reducing the supply of Neptune coins and thus making everyone else’s coins more valuable.

I know of two easy ways to burn tokens: set the receiver digest to `0`, or set the lockscript to a program that’s guaranteed to fail execution. If _either_ of those things are done, the money is unrecoverable and thus burned.

The three burns I’m aware of, presented chronologically:

0.10396 NPT (preimage set to zero)

> **[Neptune Explorer: Utxo 76963](https://neptunefundamentals.org/utxo/76963)**

0.1 NPT (lockscript set to “burn” and preimage set to zero)

> **[Neptune Explorer: Utxo 78179](https://explorer.neptune.cash/utxo/78179)**

1526640.00000 NPT (lockscript set to “burn” and preimage set to zero)

> **[Neptune Explorer: Utxo 78930](https://neptunefundamentals.org/utxo/78930)**

Total burned as of December 1, 2025:

1,526,642.2 NPT

The supply published by the block explorers should be changed to reflect this significant total amount.
