# Dev Update: Neptune & Triton

## 1. Last Week by the Numbers

### [triton-vm](https://github.com/TritonVM/triton-vm)

- **Issues** : 1 raised, 1 closed
- **Commits** : 9 merged into master

## 2. Stand-up Summary

### Alan Szepieniec

- **Last Week** : Updated the chaining pipeline code/renaming for transaction updates; generated test suites for the pipeline using a large language model.
- **Coming Week** : Audit the LLM-generated tests for the advance pipeline and verify all properties; draft a NIP establishing a formal process for handling hard fork disagreements; resolve pipeline conflicts.

### Thorkil Værge

- **Last Week** : Implemented restrictions within the chaining pipeline, including banning negative fees and altering claims; provided guidelines on LLM usage for test writing.
- **Coming Week** : Release version 8 of Triton VM; review and greenlight Neptune wallet pull requests; participate in office day to merge Neptune core code.

## 3. Technical Discussion

- **Mempool Policy & Transaction Pipelines** : The team finalized a mempool policy prioritizing single-proof transactions over link transactions to keep technical complexity low, foregoing a potential 25% speed increase achievable via link transaction caching. The operation to update link transactions was officially renamed from “update” to “advance.” Transaction pipeline integration spans four key areas: peer-to-peer sharing, mempool handling, transaction initiation (which uses unspent mempool outputs), and upgrader compatibility.
- **Chaining Pipeline Restrictions** : Specific restrictions were added to the chaining pipeline, notably banning negative fees and altering claims. Code conflicts and pending integrations for `neptune-core` will be fixed next.
- **Hard Fork Governance** : Established an unofficial policy setting a 2,000-block preparation window (approximately 2 weeks) prior to hard forks. To address concerns around formal governance, a new NIP will be drafted to outline procedures for community members expressing disagreement with proposed hard forks.
- **Neptune Wallet QR Code Support** : Address generation in the Neptune wallet now supports QR codes accommodating over 4,000 characters. This comfortably satisfies the 2,700-character requirement across generation, elliptic curve hybrid, and viewing addresses.

## 4. Updates and Announcements

- Community voting in the development Telegram channel officially set “Neptune cash” as the required prefix for the NIP 2 payment standard.
- NIP 1 (Stratum) remains inactive.
- Triton VM version 8 release is slated for immediate publication as a priority task.
