Dev Update
1. Last Week by the Numbers
- Pull Requests: 1 opened, 0 merged
2. Stand-up Summary
Alan Szepieniec
- Last Week: Implemented the “weld” branch within the single proof program to handle merge bit propagation without increasing non-determinism; recorded a podcast regarding the upcoming hard fork.
- Coming Week: Modify the weld implementation to enable Coinbase transactions; shepherd, merge, and officially announce the version 0.17 hard fork; research and develop logic for standing swap orders.
Thorkil Værge
- Last Week: Completed a manual soundness review of the chaining pipeline; tested application integration; reviewed the benign soundness report confirming zero inflation bugs in the consensus program or Triton VM.
- Coming Week: Remove draft status from the pull request; perform a soundness audit of the weld implementation (working Monday and Tuesday).
3. Technical Discussion
- Weld Implementation & Merge Bit Rules: Added the “weld” program branch to single proof transactions (cast \rightarrow chain \rightarrow fix). Weld propagates existing merge bits rather than setting new ones, maintaining performance by preventing composition shortcuts and ensuring an update and merge remains faster than building a new transaction. Reading merge bits from non-deterministic memory was avoided to minimize system non-determinism.
- Coinbase Transaction Support: Authorized Coinbase support within single proof transactions to increase throughput. This path preserves the fastest route to block inclusion by leaving merge bit logic unmodified.
- Authentication Proximity Standard: Established a codebase standard prioritizing authentication logic placement as close to value usage as possible, minimizing security risks and simplifying reasoning between authentication and usage.
- Consensus Soundness & Release Scope: Received a benign soundness report confirming no inflation bugs exist in the consensus program or Triton VM. Application integration tasks have been excluded from the version 0.17 hard fork release to keep the diff focused and control scope.
4. Updates and Announcements
- Recorded a podcast discussing the upcoming hard fork.
- Version 0.17 confirmed as the next release, with an official hard fork announcement scheduled following the master branch PR merge.
